Partnership for a Better Roseland

The mission of the Partnership for a Better Roseland (PBR) is to coordinate the efforts of community and faith-based organizations to improve the health, safety and wellness of youth in the greater Roseland community. PBR was developed through collaboration with Northwestern University’s Alliance for Research in Chicagoland Communities (ARCC) to build opportunities for Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) among service providers in the Roseland community.  In addition to D2F, eight organizations are participating in monthly trainings and capacity building workshops to develop a research question which will increase the health and wellness of Roseland youth. Current partners include: African American Family Association, Chicago Family Health Center, Greater Roseland Chamber of Commerce, Healthcare Consortium of Illinois, Human Resource Development Institute (HRDI), Roseland Community Hospital, South Side Help Center, and Teach Them How.

Through a proposed implementation grant the Partnership will seek to examine and address school-related violence as a health priority among Roseland youth ages 14-18.  Data will include both qualitative and quantitative analysis through focus groups and surveys administered to youth attending two high schools which serve the Roseland community. Evaluation results will be used to develop and pilot a school-based program which specifically addresses the needs of Roseland youth to reduce school-related youth violence.
